Currently, in Santa Anita city, there is not a thorough Integral Urban Solid Waste Management. Only household rubbish collection is in place. The reason why there is not a right segregation at source and differentiated collection is that the Municipality of Santa Anita lacks the necessary infrastructure to carry out different materials segregation and classification. As a result, waste disposal is in an environmental and sanitary position of high vulnerability. Social, environmental and political sectors are concerned about this situation due to the risks it entails as regards health and quality of life.
Implementing an Integral Urban Solid Waste Management plan in the Municipality of Santa Anita based on segregation at source, differentiated household rubbish collection and commercial waste segregation at designated points for disposing waste which will be strategically located in the city and the Industrial Estate.
Strategy to solve the problem:
To begin with, this project is intended to raise public awareness from the outset about waste management and to get citizens, the local government, companies and community organizations, the education system and society as a whole involved in it. Then, an action plan will be designed which will allow us to gradually and efficiently decrease and recover different kinds of rubbish. Afterwards, an Integral Urban Solid Waste Management plan will be implemented and developed in the Municipality of Santa Anita.
It will consist of segregation at source and household rubbish differentiated collection. It will be oriented towards decentralized composting, commercial waste segregation at designated points for disposing waste and a Recycling Centre which will include a segregation, classification and management of household rubbish (pruning waste composting) plant and final disposal in controlled landfill sites.
